The following was initially reported: On June 8, 2018 a suspect Avitrol Rock Pigeon was found seizuring at x. It was brought to the AVC, but was dead on arrival. It was submitted to the Canadian Wildlife Health Cooperative at the Pathology Department at the AVC. Results of the necropsy are pending. The following update was received: A Rock Pigeon was found on the x in x, PE by Dr. x on June 8, 2018. It was dead on arrival when it was brought to the x on June 8, 2018. It was received by the x for a necropsy on June 12, 2018. The crop content of this pigeons tested positive for Avitrol (bird control product) which confirms a state of avitrol toxicosis. The following was reported: The active chemical in Avitrol, 4-Aminopyridine, is known to cause seizures and neurological deficits in birds consuming it which likely explains the sudden death of this pigeon.
