There were a total of 42 colonies in the bee yard. There were 3 affected colonies. There were 501 - 1000 dead bees per colony observed outside the hive. Bees were actively foraging at the time of the incident. Dead bees had pollen on their legs. Adult bee symptoms included shaking/trembling/twitching, crawling. Additionally, usual number of dead drones in front of hive, drones were crawling and dead, approx. 5 dead drones/hive, drone bees releasing spermatifore? Brood symptoms included no brood symptoms. Additionally, brood was solid. No queen symptoms observed. Additionally, one queen found in grass crawling could not fly, egg coming out of queen when collected.Samples of honey taken from unaffected hive, unaffected comb had no detected active ingredients.Sample of pollen taken from unaffected hive, unaffected comb had positive detects for clothianidin. Sample of live bees taken from affected hive, affected live bees had positive detects for zoxamide. Samples of live bees taken from unaffected hive, unaffected live bees had no detected active ingredients.Sample of dead bees taken from affected hive, dead bees had positive detects for demeton-s-methyl-sulfone, desethyl atrazine, diazinon, diazinon-o, dicyclomet.Sample of dead bees taken from affected hive, dead bees had positive detects for clothianidin and thiamethoxam. Samples of live bees taken from unaffected hive, unaffected live bees had no detected active ingredients. Samples of dead bees taken, dying queen from July 23 had no detected active ingredients.The weather at the time of the incident was Rained July 7th the day before. After the incident, there were an average of 9 frames of bees, 8 frames of brood, and 20frames of pollen and honey. Additional food sources provided to the bees included sugar syrup and pollen supplement. In 2012, the following treatments were applied to the hives: formic acid, fluvalinate-tau and antibiotics. In 2013, the following treatments were applied to the hives: antibiotics. Beekeeper notes that they had rain the day before and the next day the bees were dying. Their concern is that the bees are drinking water and dying. She also notes corn was planted long ago and why were the bees dying now. Also noted it was difficult to collect samples since the bees are carrying the dead ones away faster than we can collect them. Also notes at times they have to fight with the bees for the dead ones since they want to take them away.
